How I Use It
I use Class Dojo with my whole class as my behavior management system, and also to communicate with parents. The students get immediate feedback from their behavior in class. They will instantly know if they need to keep doing what they're doing, or need to make better choices. Each student has a monster icon which most students love. When you click on a student's monster icon you can reward them a certain number of points for a behavior or take away a certain amount of points for a negative behavior. There are sounds associated with the positive and negative. The students name and monster will appear on the board when you give them points or take away points.
I have rewards when students reach 20, 50, 75, and 100 points so that they have something to work towards. Students get very encouraged when they earn points. Students who are not earning points will usually notice and get on board fast! I use this program on my promethean board and my cell phone. Class Dojo has a free app. so if I am not a my computer or board I can still use it on my phone. This is nice because I can use it in the hallway. The students don't have to wait until we are back in the classroom to see their consequence for their behavior. Overall, students really enjoy this system and it is effective and easy to use.
I really enjoy using Class Dojo in my classroom. I like that it is all done with technology because that seems to really engage children and get them excited. I also really like that students will get immediate feedback on their behavior. This helps the children and my teaching! It allows children to be rewarded when they are displaying good behavior, and it allows children to immediately see if they need to make better choices. This program has really helped my teaching because it has improved my classroom management. I also really like that parents can log in and see how their child is doing in class. Children can see that what they do at school can also been "seen" by their parents. I also like being able to message parents directly or as a class. If not all parents decide to join then it makes it a little more difficult. Overall, I think this program is very effective with my first graders.
