How I Use It
I use ClassDojo to inform students and parents about student behavior. I have created 8 positive behaviors and 6 negative behaviors and tied them to the behavior section of our report card. Each day students have the opportunity to earn 6 ClassDojo points (2 between the start of the day and recess, 2 between recess and lunch, and 2 between lunch and the end of the day). Keeping this number constant has been helpful for the parents and students so that they know how they are doing. For example, a parent doesn't have to wonder, "Did my child earn 3 points while another child earned 8." Every child can earn 6 points every day. When a child earns a negative point I pull them aside and discuss with them so that they can explain to their parents and also understand for themselves what behavior needs to change. I will make class announcements about positive behavior, such as "I notice everyone at the back table is using a whispering voice and sharing supplies." as a reminder of expectations. ClassDojo points are used by students to purchase items from the class store.
ClassDojo is a quick and easy way for me to communicate the specific behavior of each child with his/her parents on a daily basis. I appreciate that I can phrase the behaviors to meet my specific needs. It's easy for parents to link their email and see the feedback.
