How I Use It
It allows me to call on random students to make sure that they are all paying attention and on task when we are doing whole group work, specifically reading something in Science/Social Studies/ELA. When students are working in groups or partners, I am able to award them points for being on task. Sometimes, students are off task and they will receive a negative point for that. However, they can earn points back by getting back on task, working well with their team/partner, etc. At the end of some classes, I allow the person/people with the highest points to receive a ticket for our treasure box. If it is only one person that has done an outstanding job, I let them change their Avatar, which they all want to be able to do. I will also allow someone to be in charge of hitting the RANDOM selector whenever we are going through a reading.
I really enjoy using the DoJo in my classroom. I have been able to choose what to give points for and what to take points off for based on the needs of the students during a specific class. It helps me to keep track of the students during each period, because by the end of the day, sometimes I can't remember! The reports that you can print out are also helpful for my students that are behaviorally tracked, and even for those who are not! This helps me to pinpoint problem behaviors to discuss with the students and parents. Unfortunately, I can't tell how many times they were off task, talked out of turn, were unprepared, etc. I would like the graph to pull up that specific information.
