How I Use It
I have a funky, L-shaped computer lab which makes classroom management a challenge. I have been using ClassDojo with my 2nd and 3rd graders during technology specials classes. I use it mostly to reward students following class procedures (logging in and getting right to our warmup activity, listening during directions, saving and logging off properly, etc.) The students earn points toward a quarterly "free day" during technology specials. It has made an amazing difference in my classroom.
I have not yet had students log in to ClassDojo to change their avatars or shared their userids with their parents to track their behavior. So far, just motivating the students through the awarding of points has been enough to make class run smoothly.
ClassDojo has been a great tool for me to use in the computer lab to motivate students toward better behavior. My students have been extremely motivated to earn points, and eagerly watch their point totals climb on the smart board. Although this tool is not educational per se, through better classroom management I have been able to accomplish more during my classes.
