How I Use It
I have used a variety of behavior monitoring techniques, some of which have been very effective. I prefer Class Dojo for several reasons. It keeps the records for me. Parents can check on it w/out calling on me, which has led to them checking on their child's behavior more often. The students in my class are very emotionally young, and the instant reinforcement works well for them. I don't always have it up, as my projector isn't always on, but I do a check in at least 5 times a day.
Class Dojo is easy to set up, keeps the records for you, parents can access at any time. I had the good fortune to speak to a team from Class Dojo in a Google Hangout a few months ago and was impressed by the thoroughness of their questions about how their program is used in the classroom and how it can be improved. I'm excited to see that they have just now added many new features, including the ability to broadcast messages to all parents, groups of parents, or individual parents. What a time saver, and what a fabulous communication tool! My only small complaint is that if you are adding in feedback for students on an individual basis there is about a 4 second load time, which actually feels a bit slow. You'll see what I mean!
