How I Use It
I used this product in my classroom with my students by offering them this as a option for resources as we learned about Earth Science. Our textbook was a bit out of date and the resources in CK-12 along with additional resources I found in other places were supportive supplements to the class. These were shared in our Moodle platform so students could access them.
What worked?- Students were able to find resources that that helped them better understand the concepts of Earth Science. They liked the addition of videos (which are not available in our textbook). For my basic ELL students, they appreciated the option of selecting languages. As a class we used the Real World Applications which brought the learning back to the students. I assigned the "Moon Rock Countertops" as an extension. Those students that worked on it thought it was neat, however my low literacy students struggled with the terminology and required more 1:1 help with it. While I could have made these investigations myself, it was much easier and less time consuming since all the resources are right there.
What didn't? There wasn't a great deal of leveling resources available for my low readers. I wish there was an interactive glossary with the readings.
Who did you use the product with, for what purpose, and in what setting?- Middle Level students in Earth Science as a supplemental to our current textbook.
What were the specific takeaways for your students? My students liked having the multimedia options that are not available in our textbook. We didn't use the assessments, but that might something to work with next time.
A nice set of interactive textbooks with images, links and video content. Works well on mobile devices. Can download the content in a variety of modes: PDF, ePub, ect
Cons- as in all "textbooks" there is a great deal of reading. For math and science content only at this time
