How I Use It
I use this product often when I want to introduce a new topic with my first graders. It has fun videos with interesting characters that keep students engaged. I have used this website multiple times in all subject areas like math, reading, writing, science, social studies, etc. but I prefer to use it for introducing reading and writing skills. I love that they break it up into categories that make it easy to navigate around the website like story elements, phonics, words, etc. The videos have stopping points too where the pause button turns red and you can click it to have students discuss the questions in the video or write down important vocabulary. With each video they also have a game and many activities to practice the skill just learned. They even have a quiz the students can take after each video. It can be whole group online or you can print them out as a formative assessment. I have used both and they are a great way to check for understanding.
My Take
Overall, this website is a great tool to use in the classroom. There are many fun videos to help introduce multiple topics across all subject areas. This website is much more than just videos though. They also have games, activities, quizzes, and teacher guided lessons with each topic. The website is very easy to navigate and user friendly for all ages. I would recommend this website mainly to teachers because they can pause the videos to have an open discussion with the students. Teachers can also create lessons around the videos or use the lesson provided to enhance student learning. Students can use the website but they must have an account in order to view most of the videos. It can be pricey depending on how much access you want to the website. Most schools purchase an account just for their teacher's use but if your school does not, I would recommend all teachers to purchase one.
