How I Use It
I use Blogger myself for my own digital writers' notebook. As a Digital Literacy teacher, I use my own daily writing to model for my students as I ask them to write at home daily for at least five minutes. They also use Blogger for their in-class writers' notebook and for writing notes in a variety of contexts. They may leave comments on my blog if I want them to respond to a discussion question, which is an alternative to using a discussion site like Edmodo. Every kids' blog is linked to a class wiki page for easy reference. Blogger is cross-platform, and works well as a website or an app. As a result, my students can never lose their writers' notebook. Furthermore, my students post their work daily to our class twitter feed, which is easy to do on Blogger. The blogs are easy to set up and customize. It is also simple to add photos and videos. My challenge is to get the kids to consistently write/create, though this issue is not unique to Blogger per se.
My Take
Blogger has revolutionized the way I run my digital literacy (formerly "writing") workshop. The ease of use and accessibility from all devices has turned my students from mere writers into multimedia creators. I highly recommend it as an alternative or a complement to a traditional composition notebook in a writers' workshop setting.
