How I Use It
I use this tool at the end of a software application course. Students are asked to create a thirty second promotional marketing video for the application software with the intent of convincing other students to purchase/use the product. Because the students are limited in the amount of time they have, they must be concise about the benefits as well as understanding the target audience. It is one of my favorite assignments to grade, and students love the power of creation for deeper understanding of the topic.
I think the use of video, especially student created video, is underutilized in today's classrooms. This product is so versatile, has an application in any subject, and can be used in a variety of different ways (as an attention getter at the beginning of a learning unit, as a topic discussion prompt, as a visual summary of a lesson, as a student assessment of content understanding, etc.). Adding the ease of use, these features make Animoto a "go-to" application for creation learning projects.
