How I Use It
Animoto is an option I give for students to create projects. If they want to experiment, I give them the student code to sign up. They love how easy it is to use from their iPod Touches. The students do not restrict the videos to just class assignments, I've also seen a vacation story and a Christmas movie for family.
For mini-Thon, I created the reflection video of all the amazing things our district had accomplished. Everyone loved the video. I have had multiple teachers ask for help signing up because it was a tool they wanted to try.
This is a practical tool that allows students and teachers to great exciting movies with drag-and-drop ease. There are some elements of customization, by adding images and text and selecting the theme and music. However, the transitions are automatically built in. This is perfect for young learners or those who get overwhelmed by more complex video creation tools. The final project can be shared directly through Animoto, emailed as a link, uploaded to YouTube, or downloaded.
You sign up for a free account and afterwards you can apply for an educator account. This gives you and 50 students access to additional themes for free. Another benefit is it does not limit the number or restrict the length of the movies.
