How I Use It
I use this site with my Kindergarten students in the classroom during whole group and they use it individually in the classroom and at the computer lab. Throughout the year my students practice a variety of skills on ABCya. At the beginning of the year I have them practice their mouse skills with the game Fun with the Fridge by clicking and dragging magnets onto the fridge door to put the letters in order or to spell their name. As the year goes on, my students practice different math and reading skills that are specific for their needs. I can support student learning by practicing prek or k skills, and enrich students learning by having them work on first grade skills. The students love the games and are fully engaged the whole time they are on the website, and can't wait to get back on!
My Take
ABCya is a great website for students to practice skills that have already been taught. They can access it at school or at home and have fun learning! Once at the website, students do not need teacher directions since there is audio for them to listen to. Just be careful to fully explore an activity before introducing it to your students. Some activities are better suited for whole group learning, while others are geared towards individual use for fun.
