How I Use It
I often use ABCya.com as an independent practice to a skill I have taught. I find it very helpful to copy the image of the game and post that on my website as a button, this allows the students to navigate to the specific game I want them to play, rather than scroll through the whole display of games. I then have to spend time teaching my kids to scroll down to look for the main game start button and ignore the adds on the screen. For the little ones this can be quite a chore.
ABCya. com is a site I use a lot in my classroom. It is perfect to address skills that students need to practice. There are a few games where the students can play against each other. They love to challenge their classmates, which provides motivation and excitement for learning. ABCya also provides independent practice for a new lesson that I introduce. I love that the games are easy to play and really focus in on one skill. My students, k-5, can navigate the site easily. I wish that the categories were hidden so that the kids didn't see everything on one screen. Some of my students who are easily distracted make their way to the games that are part of the "More" category, which contain the creativity games. I don't like the adds on the side. It isn't a huge problem, but sometimes the children tend to focus on them which starts up too much conversation.
