While I'm in my third decade of working as a teacher librarian, I still feel like there is so much I get to learn every year! I work in the Pacific Northwest on a little island in the Puget Sound and I am a librarian at an amazing school tailored to the needs of 5th and 6th graders. My favorite projects include raising and releasing chum salmon into the salmon stream behind our school and helping students work with our city government to improve the health of our watershed. We also remember the time of Japanese Internment during World War II by inviting our community members who have a stake in that story to come visit our school on an annual basis to share their life and family history. I'm a 2013 recipient of the Carnegie Corporation / New York Times "I Love My Librarian" award. It has been a humbling and thrilling year.
