I am currently an Assistant to the Principal at a Title 1 elementary school in Hammond, IN. As an Assistant to the Principal, my role is multifaceted. With a focus on advancing student achievement, I spend a significant amount of time in classrooms conducting walkthroughs and providing meaningful feedback to teachers. Our priority is to provide our students with a challenging and enriching school experience that is centered on developing the whole child. I have been a member of the School City of Hammond district for many years as a teacher, Literacy Coach, Instructional Coach, and most recently as an Assistant to the Principal. As a previous co-secretary for the Northwest Indiana Reading Council, I have a strong passion for children’s literacy. I have had opportunity to present at many conferences including the International Reading Association Conference, the National Title 1 Conference, the English Learners Conference, and the Illinois Reading Conference. As an Instructional Coach and now as an Assistant to the Principal, I believe that professional development and constant reflection is an integral component to effective teaching. This past year, I was able to attend the TCRWP summer reading institute at Columbia University. My time at the TCRWP allowed me to hone my coaching skills and further develop my knowledge on the teaching of reading and writing. I believe these skills and my attention to creating a positive learning environment for staff and students alike, make me an asset as an administrator.
