Social & Emotional Learning
To be courageous is to identify a meaningful goal and make the choice to reach it, despite personal risk. Perseverance is a bit trickier: Some say it's an essential skill for learners, some say it's a convenient and damaging distraction from more significant systemic issues such as poverty, and some say it can't be taught at all. However, it's hard to argue that by being critical, courageous, and resilient, students can be more prepared to face adversity and support and defend uncommon -- yet just -- views.
