My Take

Toontastic is a kid favorite for digital storytelling. Supplying story structure, a choice of characters and settings, animation and voice over, the creativity really flows. students are able to save their work, which is packaged as a nifty cartoon with credits. The free version has served me well, although students sometimes are disappointed by the locked characters. This works for both individual projects and in a small group collaborative way.

How I Use It

I have used Toontastic with students in grades 1-6. Students have worked individually to write stories and also as a group, taking turns choosing characters adding voice overs and animating the action. This is one app the children always beg to use.
