My Take

The exhibition I used with my class is just one example of what they have to offer. Teachers can crate their own collections of resources around a theme or topic. Teachers can pull resources from within the Smithsonian's digital content, upload files, or even add an outside URL to the collection. They can then use the collection with their students and also make it public so that other teachers may have the benefit of it. Since my students cannot access the Smithsonian museums in person, these digital resources are the next best thing and are easy to incorporate with classroom devices.

How I Use It

Last year I used their online exhibition "The Wright Brothers & The Invention of the Aerial Age" with my students as part of our STEM curriculum. The exhibition includes lesson plans, interactive experiments, and classroom activities, The students enjoyed the Wright Brothers Illustrated Timeline, as well as learning the anatomy of an airplane by clicking and dragging the various pieces to the right locations. I have had them do online research about the Wright Flyer in other years, but last year's students were able to locate facts and images quickly from a reliable source by using this collection. We did not encounter any problems while using it.
