My Take

I worked with small phonics groups weekly. I had my kinder ESL students use Starfall.com individually and in pairs. Even if they could not read English, they were able to navigate the site with a little help. I had them work on their ABC's, letter identification and sounds. They loved the animations and asked to do Starfall as soon as they came into the my room for tutoring.

How I Use It

It's fun for early elementary! I show them how to go where I want them to go, and let them carry on by themselves and sometimes work with partners and headphones. Because they loved it so much, I would have them practice their phonic sound recognition with me individually before I let them go exploring on Starfall. They were supposed to go through the ABC's (with headphones) individually. After that they could buddy up and work with a friend. I found it wonderful practice for their phonics identification and other teachers at my school were glad they were getting the practice! I am an Art teacher, but was required to tutor in phonics. I would recommend this site for any ESL kinder student.
