My Take
This is a good app. I think with some improvements on the audio quality will come with time. I also plan to use this in the future to allow students to create their own skits in Spanish. I can see many applications of this in the classroom with the right resources (for example classroom iPads).
How I Use It
I used this in one of my 6th grade classes to teach likes and dislikes and personality descriptions in Spanish. Student attention was retained fairly well and it was easy to use. My only challenge was that the tone of some of the voices (especially high pitched ones) made it difficult to understand for some students.

Fun way to practice speaking skills in a new language
This tool helps me motivate my students to practice speaking in Spanish, which they are learning as a new language. My young students get a big kick out of the silly voices and getting to choose their own puppet characters, which allows for lots of speaking practice and repetition before they get bored or fidgety. Not only does everyone get a chance to speak before the class tires of the activity, but the silly characters and settings also encourage students who would otherwise be shy about speaking in front of the class. However, I do find that in order to keep students from getting sidetracked on the app, I need to provide the dialogs for them and record the dialog with each group. Without supervision, students have a tough time avoiding the distractions and temptations of this playful and silly app, but they do have a lot of fun and are practicing their speaking skills!

Make reading fun!
This app is very easy to use. You don't even really need to teach students how to use it because it's intuitive. I have always gotten a great response and every student wants to participate when Sock Puppets is involved. The free version is great, but the paid version give you a lot more options and doesn't limit recording time. I think it's worth the $3.99 for the complete version.
