My Take

Teen Tribune is a great teaching tool. Students read high-interest news stories about current events. Many of the stories feature short quizzes to check for understanding. I like that the students can select stories to meet their own learning & interest level. The teacher dashboard makes record keeping really easy.

How I Use It

I use Teen Tribune to encourage independent reading. This website allows students to work at the pace that's best for them. If I assign them to read three stories and take the accompanying quizzes, the students who work quickly can (and want to) continue to read while the other students finish. Students also have the option to make comments on stories (which are vetted by the teacher) that get published on the website. Commenting allows for instruction on digital citizenship.
