How Can I Teach with This Tool?
Editor's Note: MindRight is no longer available.
MindRight is a free service for teens to exchange text messages with trained adults about stress, emotions, or any other issues they may be facing. Coaches come from a variety of backgrounds and claim to offer judgment-free advice to students. While teachers may not feel comfortable recommending a service like MindRight to teens without talking to their families first, it can be a tool that counselors, teachers, and parents work together to approve. Teachers or counselors will want to have some conversations with students prior to using the service. Teens should understand that the coaches aren't therapists or doctors and that in an emergency, they should call 911. Also, while the information teens send is confidential, coaches will have to follow the law and report any behavior that indicates self-harm or harm to others. Texting fees also might be an issue for some students.
