How Can I Teach with This Tool?

Apple's Measure app uses the camera on your device -- along with augmented reality (AR) -- to measure the length, height, and area of objects in the world. Use the app to tap into students' curiosity and get them exploring their world; individually or in pairs, students can investigate the size and shape of objects either inside or outside of the classroom. It's probably most useful in math and science classes, where students can use the app to make estimations and then check their predictions. Once the app displays the measurements, students can quickly take a picture and annotate it before saving or sharing. Make sure that students understand that the measurements can be inaccurate and that they should manually confirm the results. Use the inconsistencies in the app to talk about the limits of technology, specifically augmented reality. If you have an Android device instead, check out Google's Measure app.
