Pros: Many option are available to creatively decorate photos, even without in-app purchases.

Cons: The pervasive push for in-app purchase themes can be bothersome.

Bottom Line: Easy-to-use camera with fun themes and sticker options for first-time photo editors.

Even though this app seems more appropriate for creative fun than anything directly educational, teachers may want to consider using it as a very simple first lesson about respecting other people's images when decorating/editing photos. It may also be useful as a starting point for creative storytelling: Allow young students to take pictures of one another or themselves and then ask each student to choose a theme, decorate their own photos, and tell a story related to the image. Teachers will want to avoid the police theme to omit the gun, billy club, and other related sticker options.

Kidomatic Camera is a fun camera and sticker app that allows kids to take photos of people (including themselves) as well as of pets, household objects, trees, and so on, and then decorate them. Kids can add mustaches, silly glasses, bows, letters, spray paint, and more to the photos. They can also use zoom, turn the camera to take a photo of themselves, or change flash options. Each sticker can be resized simply by pinching or expanding it, so kids can easily fit it to the photo. For more decorating choices, return to themes and purchase others for $1.99 each. It's a fun diversion, unfortunately somewhat overshadowed by the frequency of suggestions for in-app purchases (including police, holiday, and princess themes) and limited options for free themes. There are also some iffy stickers on the police theme, such as a billy club and a gun.

Kidomatic Camera can be fun, as long as kids decorate the photos in a way that's not hurtful to others. Teachers may be able to use the app to provide basic lessons in digital photography manipulation, and to talk about respect for other people's feelings. The camera and decorating tools are easy to use, but it may be confusing to younger kids that, even though the themes appear together as equal choices, they have to purchase some of them. Teachers who choose this app may want to purchase some themes prior to use (six themes are available for $1.99 each) to avoid frustration. (Note: A version of the app without in-app purchases is availble for $2.99.) Photos remain on the app unless you intentionally enable access to your camera in privacy settings. Then photos can be exported to your device's photo roll and potentially emailed to others.

Engagement

With this engaging app, kids can easily play with photos by placing stickers of mustaches, silly glasses, letters, and more on them. Stickers can be resized by pinching or expanding them.

Pedagogy

This app empowers young kids to get a glimpse into photo editing as they learn in a very simple, silly way how digital technology can interact with photography.

Support

It may be confusing to younger kids on Kidomatic that they have to purchase some themes. No tutorial or instructions are provided so kids have to figure out for themselves what the icons mean.

Fun pics for free

Overall opinion is its fun for a little while if you want students to get artistic juices flowing. I don't honk it's something that can sustain students for too long. Leaves a lot of time/ opportunity to get off task.
