Excellent for Flipped Classrooms
Community Review for Khan Academy
My Take
Khan Academy is an amazing tool for helping students to learn at their own pace. The videos are engaging and brief so students won't lose interest. The topics covered are continually expanding. This is the ideal tool for a flipped classroom. And the best part is that it's all free! No fees or subscriptions. But if you want more features, you can register for free! Sal Khan has given such a tremendous gift to teachers and students. You must check it out!
How I Use It
As part of my workshop on Flipped Learning, I go over how to use the features of Khan Academy with teachers. Ideally, it's best if teachers create accounts for their students in a virtual classroom. But even if they don't want to go to those lengths, the videos can all be viewed and used by anyone at anytime. Having students watch the videos at home to prepare for the next day's lesson allows for more classwork time with the teacher. When they arrive to the class the next morning, the teacher can assess the level of understanding of each student and differentiate accordingly. Students who need to review the concept again with their teacher, will have that opportunity. Students who may need practice but have the basic concepts can work independently. And students who have mastered the topic can work on more advanced aspects.
