My Take
This app is a bit more complicated than I would like it to be for students. It has so many possibilities however that make the learning curve worth it. One thing that I feel is lacking is continuity between the mobile app and the design studio. Both Apple and Google have spoiled me into expecting to easily work on multiple devices. Unfortunately, HP Reveal does not allow you to begin in one and continue on another device. Hopefully, this is a feature that they are looking to add.
How I Use It
Aurasma is an augmented reality platform. It has recently been rebranded as HP Reveal and was originally created for use in marketing. It is available as an app for both iOS and Android devices and uses the devices camera to place media over real life images. This media can be videos, 3D models, web pages and animation. This really bring advertisements to life. For example, a car ad in a magazine can have a video attached that is activated when scanned by the app. These same principles have made it’s way into the classroom as well. I personally used this app with our yearbook teacher. We attached videos to static pictures of experiences throughout the year. These images were then marked with a symbol so that our readers would be able to identify them.
