Excellent hub for learning and teaching digital citizenship.
Community Review for Edmodo
My Take
I started using Edmodo as a platform to communicate with students and teach digital citizenship. By the end of the year it was a great networking tool that allowed me to differentiate instruction, assign extra practice from home, and assess my students. There are many apps and additions you can make to Edmodo to customize it and make it more valuable to your classroom. The new Snapshot feature is very cool and allows super quick assessments of assigned specific standards. My favorite application of Edmodo was to have small group book club chats. I was able to differentiate for my higher level thinkers and have a record of their conversation to assess.
How I Use It
I used Edmodo as an assessment tool, communication resource, and a way to differentiate instruction. The communication and monitoring of student activity is a huge plus and allows for great digital citizenship discussions. Kids cannot direct message one another, which prevents and "note passing" type behavior on Edmodo. There is also a setting to screen every comment and post made before it becomes public.
It is tricky for students who are not great readers to navigate around Edmodo.
