1 Hook

Teacher will engage students in word problems to practice combining groups (adding). The teacher should use Mega Math: Carnival Stories - Addition Stories to 10.

2 Direct Instruction

Activity: Investigating

The teacher should go to the following site:

The teacher should use the interactive site to introduce and practice how to write addition sentences by using the symbols to add.

3 Guided Practice

Activity: Conversing

With student support, the teacher should do problems 1 & 2 in the Go Math workbook. Afterwards, the students should try and answer question 3 independently.

4 Independent Practice

Activity: Assessing

The students who completed the question correctly should complete questions 4-6.

The students who completed the question incorrectly should complete the Reteach worksheet with teacher support.

If time remains, the students who complete questions 4-6 correctly should complete the Enrich worksheet.

The teacher should monitor students as they work independently to select 2-3 students based on accuracy and efficiency. 

5 Wrap-Up

Activity: Presenting

The teacher will select 2-3 students to come present their answers to the class. The teacher will facilitate while students present, ask, and answer questions.
