1 Hook

Using Book Flix students will watch and hear an animated version of the book, Diary of a Worm.  After listening to this story students will discuss what they learned about the worm based on his diary.  Using this discussion the class will generate a list of some of the things they might want to know about their classmates.  I intend to use this at the beginning of the year.

2 Direct Instruction

Using the Whiteboard app on Apple TV introduce who, what, when and where.  Explain these questions help us to know more about the people and world around.  Write "who, what, when and where" on the whiteboard app.  Ask students what they wanted to know about their classmates.  Then have them identify where there question might fit under those categories.  Use these questions to create prompts for the guided practice section.  Record the prompts on chart paper to transfer to the flashcard app in the next section.

3 Guided Practice

Using Flashcards deluxe to create prompting flashcards that have prompt such as: Tell me where you live.  This app allows one to add pictures to help with limited reading ability.  Provide small groups with a photo of a child in another part of the world. Using the flashcard app have students discuss these details based upon the picture.Each group will share their possible bio of the child in the photo.

4 Independent Practice

Activity: Creating

Students will be provided a piece of poster board and a set of tag board sheets with the prompts from the flashcard app.  The students will write/illustrate their information on each sheet.  The sheets will be glued on the poster board.  Students may add any other decorations they feel necessary.  

5 Wrap-Up

Activity: Presenting

The posters will be displayed during the Open House.  Students will be available to share their bios with those in attendance.  They will be encouraged to explain how they arrived at their product.
