Lesson Plan

What do you think about using technology to enhance student learning?

Guides pre-service teachers first in reflecting about the use of technology to help students learn, and then in selecting specific tools that they might have their students use when they teach

1 Step 1: Hook. Do you think students can learn using the Internet without any prior direction on what to do?

Have students take poll about their reaction to question posed: do they think students can learn using the Internet without any prior direction on what to do?

2 Step 2: Direct Instruction

Activity: Other — Watch Sugata Mitra: https://www.ted.com/talks/sugata_mitra_build_a_school_in_the_cloud

Have students watch the video

3 Step 3: What was your reaction to Sugata Mitra video? (guided practice)

TodaysMeet
Free, Paid

Have students share their reaction to the Sugatra Mitra video: What did they found most interesting or inspiring about the video? What questions do they have after watching this video?

Student Instructions

Respond in Today's Meet (link given in class)

4 Step 4: In what ways might you use technology in your classes to engage them in using the 4 Cs? Independent practice

In what ways might you use technology in your classes to engage them in using the 4 Cs? (Communication, Collaboration Creativity, Critical Thinking)

Student Instructions

Create Popplet with a circle for each of the 4 Cs, and then linking different tech tools/apps to each, with short phrase on how you might have students use these

5 Wrap up: Blog about what you learned about the role technology can play in student learning

Weebly
Free, Paid

On your blog, share your thoughts about the role technology can play in student learning. Start by sharing your reaction to the initial question ("do you think students can learn using the Internet without any prior direction on what to do?) and then how this reaction was confirmed or changed first as a result of watching Sugatra Mitra video, as they looked at peers' reactions (using Today's Meet) and then as they explored different tools that students can use in helping them learn.

Student Instructions

Respond to blog prompt on your Weebly blog

6 Create your own app flow (independent practice)

Activity: Other — Create an app flow using Graphite.org app flow or using any tech tool

Direct students to create an app flow using Graphite.org app flow or using any digital tech tool of their choosing to display their flow. Share link to their flow on our course Moodle site and on their Weebly blog.

Student Instructions

Create an app flow using Graphite.org app flow or using any digital tech tool of your choosing to display your flow.

Share link to your flow on our course Moodle site and on your Weebly blog.
