Appropriately Challenging Tasks: Differentiated Activity (small group instruction or independent/group practice):

Student will  classify data from websites given  and display information in a web

Students will evaluate data and to sort through relevant and irrelevant information to create a graphic organizer which represents their findings

Students will critique various online sources based on the criteria from a checklist.

They will complete “Research Round-up Organizer”

Task

Every two years, The Millennium Technology Prize is awarded to a person that has made the most significant contributions in technology.   There are three candidates that are nominated this year.  The three nominees represent different aspects in which technology has changed the world.

Objective:  To evaluate and select information sources and digital tools to visually represent information obtained through a chart or graph.

Mini-Lesson

Analyze   Data

How can we best create a visual representation of our data?

Charts are often used in schools to show steps in a process, ,  events in a sequence.
Graphs are used to report results, make comparisons, show trends over time, or display distributions.

Which chart or graph should you construct to prove your argument?

Bar Graph

Bar graphs are used to compare things between different groups

Pie Graph

Pie charts are best to use when you are trying to compare parts of a whole

Line Graph

Line graphs are used to track changes over short and long periods of time.

Which digital tool is best to design your graph?

Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Word
Create a Graph

Appropriately Challenging Tasks

Students will create a graph using the website “Create a Graph” which visually represents your nominee’s contributions to Technology

Students will create a bar graph in Excel using a template which visually represents your nominee’s contributions to Technology

Students will create a graph in Excel using any visual representation which you fell best visually represents your nominee’s contributions to Technology

Whole Class Share
