Word Study for 2nd through 4th grade

Students will be able to identify word pattern, specifically the -ought family. 

Students will be able to sort and identify the pattern. 

Students will be able to match words that rhyme.

1 Hook

Teacher will show a vocabulary related video related to the -ought family.

Student Instructions

Students will watch the -ought video and sing the flocabulary rap together 

2 Direct Instruction

Activity: Presenting

Explain what the -ought family is, explain the pattern, and show students how to identify the -ought family. Teachers will call up student sto color code identify -ought word endings. 

3 Guided Practice

Activity: Conversing

Create a sheet with assorted words, including-ought words and have students cut them out and sort them into two piles. 

Student Instructions

Students will walk around and look at other groups work. Students will show each other their ought words. And will practice singing the flocabulary song 

4 Wrap-Up

Teacher will show the flocabulary video and use an assesement created in Google Forms to ask students pick which words belong to the -ought family from a list. And identify rhyming pairs.
