1 Bell Ringer
Start Quiz - SOC-3491825 on Viruses.
This should all be done within two minutes of the bell ringing to start class.
Students will take out their iPad (all students in my classes have a school issued iPad) and log onto my classroom Socrative COLWELLPREP and complete the bell ringer.
Show a series of pictures and ask students if these objects are alive. Things like bowling ball, tree, dog, flower, water, etc.. Have the last picture be a picture of a virus. Have students give their answer orally for each picture and call on one student to defend their answer. Teacher can use this to also review the characteristics of life.
This should take about 5 minutes.
Students should have watched four videos about viruses as part of their homework over the past two or three nights

Teacher's Explain Everything
- Not posted to internet, will be available to students through the ebackpack APP.
Students will see a picture of an object, decide if it is a living object, then respond orally to the teacher. One student will be called on to defend their answer.
3 Direct Instruction
Make sure students are given enough time, probably two or three nights to watch the virus videos to introduce them to viruses as the videos are more than should be required for students to watch in one night with other school work.
You will take about 7 minutes or so to stress important pieces of information about viruses (non-living, cannot reproduce on their own, reproductive cycles, size & structure, disease caused by viruses) that are also portrayed in the videos. Use this time to also answer questions that should may have.
Students will supplement their notes from watching four videos for homework while the teacher reviews some major concepts about viruses. Student notes may be taken on iPad or in a physical notebook.
4 Direct Instruction
The teacher will take time to review (this will have been at least the second time the students have used this APP in this class) the Tellagami APP, showing students how to create their character and record their message. Be certain to show students how to add a background, either by drawing their own or adding one from their camera roll.
Take time to answer any questions.
This should take about 8 minutes to complete.
Follow along with your teacher on the Tellagmi APP, manipulating the character, background, and creating a message.
Ask questions if you have any.
5 Guided Practice
Create a character, background, and message for all students to imitate to review the Tellagami APP.
Walk around and make sure all students have completed the activity. Do not make students share this practice GAMI.
This should take about 8 minutes.
Follow your teachers example to create a character, background, and message to practice creating a Tellagami.
Ask questions if you have any.
6 Independent Practice
Direct students to create a 30 second GAMI on viruses.
Help students as necessary with any questions or troubleshooting.
Students will have about 10 minutes to complete this assignment and turn their link into our class's ebackpack folder.
Students will create a 30 second GAMI about viruses, picking at least one key fact about viruses to highlight.
Students will create a character, background, and message that highlights some of their knowledge about viruses.
Open up Socrative Quiz : SOC-14070922
This should be done in the last three minutes of the class.
Log onto Socrative : COLWELLPREP and complete the exit ticket.
