Underhand Volleyball Serve
This will "grab" the students' attention very easily by involving physical activity and interaction with their peers.
2 Direct Instruction
The students will follow the teacher direction with the following pointers : keep eyes on ball, move to get under the ball, bend at knees, movement is at shoulder not elbows. The movement will be modeled by teacher and by selected students who seem to have mastered the skill.
3 Guided Practice
The students will be asked to demonstrate the proper technique of the skill listed AS their partner uses the iPad to video their actions. The two will take turns doing so and critiquing each skill. Students may raise questions regarding skills with the teacher OR their partner.
4 Independent Practice
Students will be asked to create various drills to practice the skill being presented. Students can display mastery both by demonstrating real time, OR by reviewing the video that was recorded on the iPad.
Students will discuss the advantages of using proper form for the skill presented. Proper form mastery may lead to raising self-confidence of students participating AND may also translate into a more productive class and/or team season.
