The Giver

ELA Lesson Plan utilizing Universal Learning Design Fundamentals

Universal Learning Design in the classroom utilizes a variety of options based on learner preference and environment for learning every step of the way. Three principles are highlighted below that are included in UDL guidelines. Technology integration in the classroom has been especially helpful for learning differentiation as well as reflecting the varied manners in which students regulate socially and academically and how UDL can assist in fostering authentic learning experiences for all students.

1. This tool for blogging will be an option as students reflect(in whatever narrative they wish) on the perspective of a main character in the story. 

2. Voicethread can be used to create a monologue or narrative reflection from the perspective of an outsider or main character in the book on a particular event and their understanding. 

3. Option for artistic take on the Giver. 

4. Students may utilize this option to express an artistic representation of life for a main character in The Giver.
