1 Hook

Activity: Conversing

Ask the students if they know the alphabet and sing the song with them.  This conversation and song is to get them to familiarize them to the alphabet.

2 Direct instruction

Watch the Phonics song video that goes through the alphabet and sounds out the letters. Go over the song multiple times and have the students sound out the letters with the song.

3 Guided Practice

Activity: Presenting

Show a picture, say the word of the picture and have the students say what letter it is and practice saying out loud the sound it makes.

4 Independent practice

Activity: Creating

Have students write the alphabet down and draw a picture that corresponds with the letter it starts with.  This activity can be modified by splitting up certain parts of the alphabet per student. For example there are 26 students in a classroom each child draws the alphabet but only draws a picture corresponding to one or two assigned letters.

5 Wrap-up

Activity: Other — Sharing

Have students share their pictures, having them sound out the letter they have as well. End the lesson by reciting the alphabet once again as a class.
