Discuss students favorite superheroes. Ask them why they like their favorite and make a visual list of the adjectives or traits they identify.  They will probably list words such as strong, brave, fearless, etc.  Once you have generated a list of adjectives, discuss the difference between internal and external characteristics.  Then sort the list into internal and external characteristics.

2 Guided and Independent Practice

Use the Mavel website to have students create their own superhero.  They could print this and list the internal and external character traits of their hero.  You could also use kidpix to have students draw their own hero if the marvel website is too racy for you.
