1 Hook

Go to Google Earth to explore the topography and landscape of the current condition of the Francisco Garden. Identify key vocabulary words such as: surface area, polygons, and volume

2 Direct Instruction

Use Brainpop to define the surface area and volume. Use Kahn Academy to introduce the concepts and computation.

3 Guide Practice

Edmodo for collaboration. Use Todaysmeet to share ideas and check understanding. Informative assessment using Socrative.

4 Independent Practice

Use Formlt and/or 123 D Design to shift the learning experience. Students design their own outdoor Life Lab that includes 3-Dimensional shapes and findin the surface and volume of each shape with emphasis on promoting community and learning.

5 Wrap Up

Google Drive
Free, Paid

Students will use GoogleDocs to share their thinking behind their design. They will talk about the environmental impact and sustainability. How did they use their design thinking to apply the geometric learning in Unit 6.9.
