1 Hook

Activity: Presenting

Students will be shown a short rap on the states of matter that was created by teachers. This is a fun way to get the kids excited about this topic. 


2 Direct Instruction

Activity: Exploring

Students will watch a video from Bill Nye exploring the states of matter. Teachers should create guided notes so students are following along and filling in the blanks. 


3 Guided Practice

Activity: Other — Discussion

As a large group the class will discuss what they thought of the video and what they learned. During this time the class should go over their guided notes, making sure they have the correct answers and fill in any information that they may have missed. 

4 Independent Practice

Activity: Investigating

The students will work through an experiment to help solidfy their understanding of the states of matter. The teacher should walk through the experiment proir reminding students of the rules during experiments and answer any questions before they begin the process. 





5 Wrap up

Activity: Assessing

As a whole class the students will discuss what they found during the experiment. This will help to see who understands the overall concept and who needs re-teaching of the topic.
