Students will be introduced to the concept of multiplication by watching this quick 2 minute video. This video helps students to preview the times tables and helps them to understand what they will be working on and what they can expect.
2 Direct Instruction
The students will get their direct instruction via the following video link through Khan Academy: https://www.khanacademy.org/math/arithmetic/multiplication-division/mult...
This will go into more detail on what mulitiplicatin is, what it entails and how they can begin to solve multiplication problems. This gives them a baseline to begin the process of multiplication.
3 Guided Practice
As a large group students will begin to work on multiplication problems involving zero and ones. The teacher will give them examples to work on together as a whole group before the students break up into small groups or pairs to practice some more.
4 Independent Practice
Students will log into their IXL math account to work on their multiplication facts independently. This will give teachers data on how the students are doing thus far that way teachers can gauge what they need to reinforce, what the students know and where they need to go next.
5 Wrap Up
Students will view the following video as a wrap up to the lesson: https://www.flocabulary.com/i-feel-smart-i-feel-good/. This video summarizes the ones times tables and helps to reinforce what they just learned.
