1 Hook

Activity: Presenting

Read a book about a famous woman that students have not heard about or know much about.

2 Direct Instruction

The teacher will demonstrating locating a famous woman in BrainPop or BrainPop Jr. The class will view and listen to the video together. While viewing the teacher will pause the video from time to time to take notes. The teacher will show the students the notes as she is taking them and discuss why she is writing down the items she is writing down. This will continue until the end of the video. At the end of the video the teacher will demonstrate answering the questions

     What is the name of the famous woman?

     What makes her famous?

3 Guided Practice

Choose a second famous woman and have the students view the video together. the teacher will stop for them to take notes this time without telling the students what to write down. This will continue until the end of the video. At this time the students will discuss the information they wrote in their notes. Students will not answer the same two questions

     What is the name of the famous woman?

     What makes her famous?

They will then discuss what they wrote.

4 Independent Practice

The student will now individually select a woman listed in BrainPop or BrainPop Jr. They will individually listen to the video and take notes while listening. The student will then complete the questions from the information they got from their video and notes. They will turn in the questions to the teacher.

The two questions are:

     What is the name of the famous woman?

     What makes her famous?

5 Wrap-Up

Activity: Presenting

Student will write the information into a word document and submit it to the teacher. For extra credit the student will search for a picture of the person and include it with the answers.
