Relating Shakespeare Vocabulary to Today's Lingo

Students will be able to...

1.  Translate Shakespearean English to modern day English

2.  Using this ability to translate, students will be able to more effectively understand famous Shakespeare speeches and plays

1 Hook

Ask student's what they feel about Shakespeare and their experiences with his plays. Discuss what issues they have had (if any) with the language.

2 Instruction

Shakespeare is actually written in Modern English and really isn't that different from our way of speaking today.

3 Guided Practice

Have kids go to the link and play the game 

4 Independent Practice

Every student will get a line from the scene and will translate it individually and we will go over their translations quickly together

5 Wrap Up

Activity: Conversing

Wrap up lesson with a summary of activities. Ask everyone if they have a better grasp of the vocab and lingo that Shakespeare uses
