1 Hook

Project article for the class to see it. Preset it as "real" and point out that it came from a "news" site and even quotes Mark Zuckerberg.

2 Introduction

Discuss how currency, relevance, authority, accuracy, and purpose are all important when evaluating sources.

  • So, based on the CRAAP test, is our article about Facebook a reliable source?---NO

3 Practice

Give students a few minutes to work on the handout. Once they are finished rating sources (1=best, 8=worst) discuss.

4 Instruction

Share how to find sources on AVL (Alabama Victual Library) or any other database students have access to.

5 Independent practice and wrap up

Students need to find one source through a database on AVL and then choose one of the two links (Dog Island or the Tree Octopus) provided. Using the article from a database and the website, students will complete the CRAAP test worksheet.

Answer and questions and discuss as needed.
