We will start our lesson with asking students what they know about pumpkins and we will write them down to make a KWL chart. Then students will discuss what they want to know about pumpkins.
2 Direct Instruction
We will first review what we have learned on the previous days about pumpkins. Then we will listen to From Seed to Pumpkin read aloud video. Have a hard copy of the book on hand to turn to the pages to show the stages of the pumpkin life cycle. At the end of the video, ask students how the seed turned into the pumpkin. Then we will add any new facts to our KWL chart.
3 Guided Practice
We will first review what we have learned on previous day about pumpkins. We will add to and review out KWL chart. Teacher will have pictures of the pumpkin life cycle. As a whole or small group we will review the life cycle of a pumpkin and order the pictures.
4 Independent Practice- Center
The teacher will take pictures of each student exploring the outside of a pumpkin. Asking them to describe how it feels.
The teacher will take pictures of each student exploring the inside of a pumpkin. Asking them to describe how it feels.
Students will explore the outside of pumpkins and record how it feels. Then students will explore the inside of pumpkins and describe how the inside feels. They will create their own pumpkin by painting with orange glue, yarn and seeds to make the inside of a pumpkin.
5 Wrap Up
The teachers will upload the each pictures of the students exploring the outside and inside of the pumpkin.
The student will record how the pumpkins feel to go along with the picture of them feeling it.
Upload student book video to youtube and create a QR code to put on students pumpkins project to share with the parents.
