Pronouns to the Core
Establish an account on EdPuzzle and follow the 4 step process of learning how to find, change, and share a video with your students. You will be able to search a wide range of videos from various platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo, etc. You also have the ability to upload your own videos. Once you have selected a video you will need to determine how you would like to manipulate the video.
The EdPuzzle features include:
- add a quiz type question
- add your own voice over
Add the following type questions at the following times:
- :33 Subjective Pronoun
- 1:28 Objective Pronoun
- 2:03 Possessive Pronoun
- 2:56 Intensive Pronoun
Once finished manipulating the video you can take away the privilege of allowing students to fast forward through the video.
You can share the video through your established class (which involves giving your students an access class code)
Results of the test are available through your account.
2 Direct Instruction
Students will then be directed to the NearPod application. Students will be given a NearPod access code to complete a NearPod presentation (similar to a PowerPoint) on Pronouns.
The NearPod will include 4 mini lessons:
- Subjective, Objective, and Possessive Pronouns
- Intensive Pronouns
- Pronoun Number and Person
- Vague Pronouns
This portion of the lesson will be directed at the discretion of the teacher. Between each lesson students will be asked quiz type questions or will be manipulating sentences using the draw feature. The information gathered in each lesson will be used to group students for future grammar pronoun activities.
3 Guided Practice
Students will then be directed to www.quill.org. Students will sign into their accounts and complete two pronoun lessons at their own pace.
The first requires students to look at pronouns in a series of ten individual sentences.
The second lesson requires students to manipulate a paragraph with misused pronouns. The teacher can walk around the classroom and work with struggling learners.
If students have mastered the activity quickly they will be directed to move to the next activity (Blendspace.)
4 Independent Practice
Students will then explore a Blendspace board with various pronoun activities.
Blendspace allows for a teacher (or student) to build a board on a topic and easily share the board.
Items can be found from

The board style allows students to watch videos and explore links. Students can work through the boards at their own pace and pick and choose what the want to watch and/or read about.
The teacher can embed discussions and quiz questions throughout the board.
Students will play a game show style question and answer game using the platform of Kahoot. The teacher will need to enable the game to be viewed on the LCD projector.
The students will go to https://kahoot.it/
Once the game is enabled the game will flash a pin for students. (No accounts are needed for students)
Students will type in their name. (The teacher has the option to remove names as they are flashing on the board)
Questions will flash on the board while students have to pick the answer on their device. Players are rewarded for correct answers and speed. The top five players are listed after each question. The teacher can download the results into a spreadsheet after the class.
