Create a story based on the phonics skills they have learned. 

Use phonics skills to increase their ability to decode words and build accuracy in reading.

1 Hook

Using laptop and smartboard, teacher will project Starfall phonics game. After the game is played, teacher explains that they will focus on specific skill targeted in game. Students will then have a chance to create a story based on skill!

Student Instructions

Students play game as a small group.

2 Direct Instruction

Activity: Reading

Teacher will introduce phonics skill for the day. Using white board and sentence strips, teacher will give examples of words that use the specific phonics skill. Students will practice whole class reading words and sentences.

3 Independent Practice

Teacher will direct the students to find the lesson on Starfall app that address the focus of the day. 

Teacher will guide students through Starfall lesson. 

Discussion will take place after lesson is completed. 

4 Evaluation of Learning/Wrap up activity

Book Creator

Teacher will split students up into partners. Each partner will use the ipad to take pictures of objects in the room that have the phonics skill practice in their name. (ie: a pen would include the short e sound).

Students will then use their pictures to create their own story that another student could read to learn about specific phonics skill.
