1 Hook/Attention Getter

Free
I will begin the lesson by accessing Kahoot to administer a pre-test to students. This pre test determines their level of prior knowledge of PEMDAS and following the steps to solve equations.
Student Instructions
Students will answer the questions on the pre-test using Kahoot.
2 Direct Instruction

- Begin the lesson by reviewing the acronyms for PEMDAS as the phrase"Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally" and the actual abbreviations "Parenthesis, Exponent, Multiplication/Division (in order from left to right), Addition/Subtraction (in order from left to right)" reminding the students that the equation must be solved in this order to arrive at the correct answer.
- Work several problems on the board for students to review this skill, making sure to include problems of all skill levels from easy to more challenging.
