1 Hook

Introduce what a parable is and why they are read.

Introduce literary devices used in parables and the reason they are used.

Show youtube clip and have students identify literary terms and come up with a moral.

2 Idependent practice

Activity: Reading

Have students work individually and find a brief parable.  Read the parable, identify the literary devices used in the parable and their function.  Decide what the moral is.  Then, put students in groups of 3 or 4.  Each person takes a turn paraphrasing his or her parable.  The other students take notes and turns identifying what they think the devices stand for and what the moral is.
