1 Hook

Put Antonyms Are Opposites song video on smartboard so all students can see.

Student Instructions

Listen to the Antonym song and sing along!  

2 Direct Instruction

Have ipad station ready for students to grab ipads.

Have students grab an ipad from station.

Instruct students to click on Youtube app.

Write URL of Synonyms and Antonyms Video on board:



Student Instructions

Pick up an ipad from ipad station.

Click on Youtube app.

Type in URL provided by teacher.

3 Guided Instruction

As a big group, create one multimedia interactive poster describing synonyms and antonyms and giving examples.

Student Instructions

Create poster that explains what antonyms are and synonyms are.

4 Independent Practice

Instruct students to complete the ixl antonyms and synonyms section

Have them show you their score when you are finished.

Student Instructions

Select the ixl app on your ipad

Select  language arts

Select antonyms and synonyms

Complete level and show teacher your score when you are done

5 Wrap up

Activity: Reading

Show the students what a thesaurus is and challenge them to go home and share antonyms and synonyms with their parents by using a thesaurus.
