1 Hook

Capture student interest in exploration by recreating the voyage of Christopher Columbus on Google Earth.  Download my my Google Earth Lit Trip for Pedro's Journal for implementation. http://www.googlelittrips.com/GoogleLit/K-5/Entries/2011/11/28_Pedros_Journal_by_Pam_Conrad.html

2 Direct Instruction

Use Tim and Moby to explore the life of Christopher Columbus and to inspire students to consider how they can create their own animated story.

3 Guided Practice

Use World Book Online as well as Follett Shelf's "Enlight" app to provide research opportunities for each student to delve into the history of a different New World explorer.

4 Independent Practice

Use Edmodo's "Go Animate" app to help students create an explorer biography.

5 Wrap-Up

Share student Go Animate biographies on Edmodo.  Create a method for each animation to receive at least one or two positive comments from students.
