1 Hook/Attention Getter
Teachers may select an award winning book to display to the class that you students would know.
Teacher would ask the students what makes the book special.
Teacher will ask the students if they have considered making their own special book.
Teacher will inform the students that they will begin a research project that will lead into the students making their own digital picture book.
Students will share make qualities make the book special.
Students will respond if they ever considered making their own book.
2 Direct Instruction
Below is a link of a notebook in Evernote.
This allows students focus on the main ideas of the novel on one note page. On the second note page students will focus on important facts.
Students will need to create an Evernote account.
This is a free web application.
3 Direct Instruction
Teacher will ask students how they can locate a nonfiction book.
Teacher will ask students the needed steps to access the library catalog to locate a nonfiction book.
Students will answer how they can access a nonfiction book.
Students will answer or demonstrate how locate a nonfiction book using the library catalog.
Students will search the catalog and locate a nonfiction book of their choice.
4 Guided practice
Teacher will review examples of notes from evernote
Students will work in pairs to review notes from ever note.
Students will identify if others properly included main ideas and important facts.
5 Independent Practice
Teacher will review the criteria for their picture book.
Suggested Project Requirements
Book Cover - Name, Class Period
Images - 3 images included in book
Fact Pages - 5 fact pages
Each page must include 2 facts
Scenes - 2 different scenes must be used
Resources/Citations page- properly cite all sources used.
Students will apply the picture book guidelines and use their notes to craft a story.
Teacher will show examples of stories from Storyjumper.
Students will create a StoryJumper account.
Students will apply their story to their StoryJumper.
When finished, students will share their book with classmates.
